An open letter from Tibet’s common man

We congratulate you on winning US elections and becoming the next President of the United States of America. Your election has given the people of Tibet a new hope. Even His Holiness the Dalai Lama has written to you and wished to contribute to making the world peaceful and harmonious.

We have listened to your speeches during election campaign and were deeply touched to learn about your support to the people of Tibet. In September 2020, you said “As President, I’ll put values back at the center of American foreign policy, and I’ll meet with His Holiness the Dalai Lama; appoint a new Special Coordinator for Tibetan issues.”

We are hopeful that you will work with US’s allies in pressing Beijing to return to direct dialogue with the representatives of the Tibetan people to achieve meaningful autonomy, respect for human rights, and the preservation of Tibet’s environment as well as its unique cultural, linguistic and religious traditions.

We are even looking forward to your initiative to “step up” support for the Tibetan people by expanding Tibetan language services at Radio Free Asia and Voice of America to get information from the outside world into Tibet.

Lastly, it is our firm belief that under your compassionate and visionary leadership as the President of the United States, the people of Tibet will achieve their rightful place in the world.
