Chinese are trying to reach me: Open to dialogue on Tibetan issues, the Dalai Lama declares.

The Dalai Lama, the head of Tibetan Buddhism, said that he was willing to speak with China about the issues facing Tibetans and that they were welcome to do so “officially or unofficially”.

“I am always available to speak. China is now aware of how powerful the Tibetan people’s spirit is. So they want to get in touch with me to handle their Tibetan issues. I’m ready too,” he said.

Before traveling to Delhi and Ladakh, the Dalai Lama made the comments at Dharamshala while addressing media.

When asked whether he wanted to continue discussions with China, he said, “We are not seeking independence; we have elected to remain a member of the People’s Republic of China since many years.China is evolving now. Officially or covertly, the Chinese want to get in touch with me.

On July 6, the Dalai Lama celebrated his 88th birthday and paid a visit to the courtyard of the Main Tibetan Temple in Dharamshala, which is close to his home. According to the official statement posted on the Dalai Lama’s website, while speaking to the crowd during the festivities, the Dalai Lama remarked that he has not been upset with anybody, not even those Chinese authorities who have taken a severe approach toward Tibet.
