Gujarat hosts an international Buddhist seminar, organized by the regional convener of Tibet support groups in India.

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Sahitya Academy and Dr. Amit Jyotikar Foundation on 15 December 2023 jointly organised first International Buddhist Literature and Cultural Seminar and a book release on the third death anniversary of Dr. P. G. Joytikar to commemorate the noted Dalit historian and a staunch supporter of Tibetan Freedom Movement.

The seminar began with a prayer session by Buddhist representatives and a presentation of a short video about the late Dr. P.G Joytikar’s contribution, followed by a book release in the presence of former Vice Chancellor of Central University, Kuldeep Agnihotri, Dr. Hemant Bhatt, Ven. Dr. D. Revatha, Ven Geshe Tenzin Damchoe, Dr.Vijay Surwade and DGP Anil Pratham.

Dr. Amit Jyotikar in his opening remarks, gave a brief explanation on the book about Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and further expressed gratitude to all the members and Tibetan sweater sellers across Gujarat regions for attending the seminar.

Additionally, Geshe Tenzin Damchoe delivered a universal message of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama stating the need to be a 21st century Buddhist Practitioner and focus more on reasoning rather than merely chanting the mantra. He further spoke on the need to develop faith with help of wisdom and apprised the gathering about His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s four noble commitments among which, three implies to all.

The late Dr. P. G. Jyotikar, who passed away on 15 December 2020, is the founder of the support for Tibet and Tibetan freedom movement in Gujarat and the National Vice President of India – Tibet Friendship Society (ITFS). He was also a noted Dalit historian, a scholar of Ambedkarite Movements in Gujarat, and the Trustee Chairman of the Buddhist Society of India popularly known as PG in the Buddhist Ambedkarite community.
